SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow, + Restore Treatment Masque

Standard

I don’t…really know what’s gotten into SheaMoisture but they have seriously stepped up their hair masque game with this new JBCO line and the Manuka Honey line! This masque is SO GOOD! Overall, the masque is meant to “help promote growth by supporting hair’s elasticity, reducing the appearance of breakage and shredding.” The JBCO line is meant for for those who “regularly color, straighten, perm or heat style their hair, as well as kinky, curly or wavy natural styles.” I no longer perm my hair nor do I use heat on a regular basis BUT I am transitioning so I need all the moisturizing masques I can get my product junkie hands on. SO I was thrilled when I rinsed this masque out and it left my hair so soft, shiny, detangled, on and on. The only drawback? It smelled a little like…play-doh. It wasn’t TOO strong and I didn’t smell it once I rinsed the masque out but yea…slight kindergarten flashbacks when applying it to my hair. Also, the packaging boasts about the addition of peppermint oil which is meant to “stimulate the scalp for an invigorating experience.” Yea…I didn’t feel the peppermint oil. Nonetheless, I loved this product and I would highly recommend it! I purchased this masque at CVS for $12.99 for 12oz.

SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque

Standard

Love love loveee this masque! This is the type of conditioner that will have you rinsing out your hair way longer than you need to solely because your hair is still SO soft (like it was when you were applying the conditioner to your hair) that you still think it’s IN your hair long after it’s been rinsed away. Needless to say, I love this masque! It left my hair super soft, detangled and moisturized! Everything about this masque screams perfection for transitioners and naturals! A definite new staple for me. I purchased it from Target for $11 for 12 oz.

Aphogee Curlific Texture Treatment

Standard

Elasticity is vital for transitioning hair and well…any hair really! That is the exact reason that I purchased this conditioning treatment. It’s vital that I prevent as much breakage as I can around my line of demarcation during my transition. This product is meant to provide hair with a equal balance of protein and hydration and help eliminate hair loss as well as split ends. That’s exactly what it does! I use this conditioner the week after after I’ve straightened my hair in order to add some protein/keratin back into my hair that was recently lost when blow drying and flat ironing my hair. This DC always leaves my hair stronger, shinier, and SO SOFT! While those are definitive positives of this DC, my favorite attribute is the SMELL! It smells JUST like clean fresh laundry detergent and the smell lingers even after I’ve washed it out. My favorite smell ever! I purchased this DC from Sally’s for $9 for 8oz
.
Here is an informative article by Curly Nikki about the importance of elasticity for healthy hair!

Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Hair Masque

Standard

Once I tried Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair Deep Conditioner, I thought I had found my ideal deep conditioner. Then, I tried Miss Jessie’s Rapid Recovery Treatment and thought that I had found two of the best deep conditioners EVER. Until, I ran across this hair masque. Don’t get me wrong I still love those two deep conditioners, but this masque is also amazing! Last week my hair (especially my ends) were feeling extremely brittle and dry from a mixture of the humidity and heat. Not wanting to let my hair succumb to breakage, I searched through my product stash for a solution. On a whim, I decided to try this masque, as I had received it from a product swap and still hadn’t tried it. It. is. amazing. It has a combination of keratin, coconut oil and olive oil which hydrate hair while strengthening it all at once. It is now one of my go to deep conditioners when my hair is dry, when is starting to break AND right before I’m about to straighten my hair WHICH I won’t be able to do often now that I’m transitioning. This masque truly delivers hydration to the hair without being too heavy on hair. It’s a perfect lifesaver for hair that is dry and damaged. Like I said, I got this from a product swap but it can be purchased at Walmart for $10 for 11 oz. It’s super thick so you can probably get about 4-5 uses out of it depending on hair length.

HOW I USE IT

After a shampoo and conditioner, I apply this masque to my damp hair. First, I section my hair into four different sections. Then, within each section I apply this masque, detangling with a wide tooth comb to ensure equal distribution. I put on a plastic cap and sit underneath my bonnet dryer for 20 minutes. Rinse and try to keep my hands out of my super soft hair!

Miss Jessie’s Rapid Recovery Deep Treatment

Standard

This deep conditioner is AMAZING! Seriously, AMAZING! I used it last night, along with a good steam treatment, and my hair is so soft and shiny. I’ve used a lot of deep conditioners in my time and NONE have come close to this one, even my (former) favorite Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair DC. This deep conditioner is specially formulated to restore hydration and elasticity to brittle hair. It truly does just that! This product can be purchased on the Miss Jessie’s website. Prices vary depending on the size you chose with the 16 oz being $32. Pricy? Yes. But this product is comparable to the infamous Carol’s Daughter Monoi Hair Repairing Mask WHICH is just as expensive, for less product and results that aren’t as great. Also, because the consistency (pictured below) of this product is thicker, you really do get more use out of this product for the price.
