SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow, + Restore Treatment Masque

Standard

I don’t…really know what’s gotten into SheaMoisture but they have seriously stepped up their hair masque game with this new JBCO line and the Manuka Honey line! This masque is SO GOOD! Overall, the masque is meant to “help promote growth by supporting hair’s elasticity, reducing the appearance of breakage and shredding.” The JBCO line is meant for for those who “regularly color, straighten, perm or heat style their hair, as well as kinky, curly or wavy natural styles.” I no longer perm my hair nor do I use heat on a regular basis BUT I am transitioning so I need all the moisturizing masques I can get my product junkie hands on. SO I was thrilled when I rinsed this masque out and it left my hair so soft, shiny, detangled, on and on. The only drawback? It smelled a little like…play-doh. It wasn’t TOO strong and I didn’t smell it once I rinsed the masque out but yea…slight kindergarten flashbacks when applying it to my hair. Also, the packaging boasts about the addition of peppermint oil which is meant to “stimulate the scalp for an invigorating experience.” Yea…I didn’t feel the peppermint oil. Nonetheless, I loved this product and I would highly recommend it! I purchased this masque at CVS for $12.99 for 12oz.

Love love loveee this masque! This is the type of conditioner that will have you rinsing out your hair way longer than you need to solely because your hair is still SO soft (like it was when you were applying the conditioner to your hair) that you still think it’s IN your hair long after it’s been rinsed away. SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo

Standard

Because this post is about a shampoo (and all shampoo posts make for a pretty dry read) I’m going to spend the majority of this post expanding upon the ingredients in this shampoo. But, first, how it works. The product is specially formulated for DRY hair. So, when I bought it, it was near the end of summer when my hair was parched! This shampoo left my hair cleansed AND moisturized! It suds up pretty easily and feels super moisturizing. It also smells amazing! Something between a tropical and sweet smell. I would definitely repurchase this shampoo. I got it at Target for $9.99 for 13 fl oz.

Aphogee Curlific Texture Treatment

Standard

Elasticity is vital for transitioning hair and well…any hair really! That is the exact reason that I purchased this conditioning treatment. It’s vital that I prevent as much breakage as I can around my line of demarcation during my transition. This product is meant to provide hair with a equal balance of protein and hydration and help eliminate hair loss as well as split ends. That’s exactly what it does! I use this conditioner the week after after I’ve straightened my hair in order to add some protein/keratin back into my hair that was recently lost when blow drying and flat ironing my hair. This DC always leaves my hair stronger, shinier, and SO SOFT! While those are definitive positives of this DC, my favorite attribute is the SMELL! It smells JUST like clean fresh laundry detergent and the smell lingers even after I’ve washed it out. My favorite smell ever! I purchased this DC from Sally’s for $9 for 8oz
.
Here is an informative article by Curly Nikki about the importance of elasticity for healthy hair!

Proganix Repair Conditioner Healing + Anti Breakage

Standard

This past week I accompanied a close friend to ULTA so she could pick up some hair products. Due to the fact that I’m a product junkie, I subconsciously knew that I have enough products but the PJ in me just knew I would have to buy something for myself. And, I did. This Proganix conditioner! I was so taken aback by the fact that this different line of shampoo and conditioners are FROM Organix but…are called Proganix cause they’re like…the turbo charged version. haha! This specific conditioners contains Vitamin E AND Ceramide 3 to “infuse dry damaged hair with strength and elasticity while repairing split ends and frizziness adding healthy bounce and shine.” Sounds like the perfect conditioner for a transitioner that’s trying to avoid as much breakage as I can! Don’t know what Ceramides are? Here is an informative article by Curly Nikki on ceramides that’ll get you up to speed! I used this conditioner after a clarifying shampoo AND on a day where I was going to straighten my hair so I could tell if it really delivers any moisture AND helps repair (read: bind together temporarily) split ends. Works on both accounts AND prevented any frizz! This conditioner is an ULTA exclusive so I purchased it from ULTA for $9.99 for 8.5 fl oz.

INGREDIENTS

Water (Aqua), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Ceteareth-20, Glycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Ceramide 3, Glycol Distearate, Glycol Stearate, Isopropyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, DMDM Hydantoin, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance (Parfum).

HOW I USE IT

Apply to the length and ends of hair, after shampooing, leave on for 3-5 minutes and rinse!

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner

Standard

Have you ever heard of “cheapie conditioners” that make your hair feel super soft, have great slip, ease the detangling process all while being real cheap in price? Well, this is products is THE definition of a cheapie conditioner. It’s a great conditioner to use in your pre-poo mix OR as a co-wash or a regular conditioner (followed after a shampoo). The slip that this product contains makes it super easy to detangle hair and the product name surely doesn’t lie as it delivers a great deal of hydration! The only drawback to me is that there are more synthetic ingredients than natural and it contains a silicone. The silicone, however, is water soluble! Additionally, the smell is light and fruity which is just the right icing on the cake that makes this product a sure staple in any naturalistas or curly girls product stash! I purchased this product from Walgreens for $3.99 for 12 oz.

INGREDIENTS

Water , Stearyl Alcohol , Behentrimonium Chloride , Cetyl Alcohol , Bis Aminopropyl Dimethicone , Zea Mays (Corn) Silk Extract , Orchis Mascula Flower Extract , Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract , Fragrance , Benzyl Alcohol , Disodium EDTA , Sodium Hydroxide , Methylchloroisothiazolinone , Methylisothiazolinone , Blue 1

HOW I USE IT

As I previously mentioned, I use this conditioner as a pre-poo, co-wash, or a conditioner. When using it as a pre-poo, I simply mix it with any of my DIY pre-poo treatments and use a wide tooth to detangle and ensure equal distribution. I then put my hair into a top knot, place a plastic cap over my head and wait about an hour before shampoo and conditioning. When using as a co-wash or a conditioner, I apply to the length and ends of my hair, wait 3-5 minutes and rinse!

Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo

Standard

This is a great shampoo that I came across accidentally. I was in the market for a new clarifying shampoo as my Carol’s Daughter Rosemary Mint clarifying shampoo had recently run out. While in Walgreens, however, I spotted this shampoo and mistakenly thought it was a clarifying shampoo. Wrong. While this shampoo does leave me hair feeling cleansed it is NOT a clarifying shampoo as it is actually gentle enough for daily use. I would never shampoo my hair daily though, ha! Lately, I’ve started washing my hair in sections. Although my hair has always been thick, my new natural growth has started to make my hair that much thicker. And, because I’m seeking to miminize breakage during this transition period, I find it so much easier to section my hair into four sections when I wash. When I do that and apply this shampoo to each section, every single section is left feeling super clean yet STILL moisturized! And those two things alone sell me on this shampoo! But, the amazing natural ingredients (sulfate AND paraben free) are a definite plus! I purchased this shampoo from Walgreens for $11.99 for 8 fl oz. A little pricey and, yes you could find other shampoos out there for cheaper, but this shampoo really gets the job done while leaving your hair moisturized! Plus, it IS a shampoo and we all know how infrequently naturals, transitioners, and curly girls use shampoo.

INGREDIENTS

Purified Water, Organic Mandarin Orange Fruit, Organic Marigold Flower, Organic White Willow Bark, Organic Sea Kelp, C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate and Cocamidopropyl Betaine (Coconut Derived), Phytic Acid, Citric Acid, Sea Salt, Phenoxyethanol and Natural Fragrance

HOW I USE IT

Just like any other shampoo–I section my hair into four sections, wash each section making sure to massage the shampoo into my scalp and throughout my hair root to tip, then wash each section out! If you hair isn’t so thick, however, just apply to scalp and hair and rinse.
