Creme of Nature 7 in 1 Leave In Conditioner

Standard

I truly feel as if Summer 2014 has allowed me to discover some of the best hair care products around. I really have been searching for a spray leave in that actually hydrates my hair! I’ve tried the Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Leave In and it didn’t moisturize my hair when wet. I’ve tried Giovanni’s Direct Leave In and it worked pretty good but I needed something more. I loved Eden’s All Natural Coconut Shea though and thought I could never find anything to compare. Wrong. This leave in conditioner is SO MOISTURIZING! And, it’s a spray leave in which is my preference. It delivers on all 7 of it’s claims: Detangles & Conditions, Heat Protection, Breakage Defense, Controls Frizz, Moisturizes Dry Hair, Prevents Split Ends And Adds Exotic Shine. Yea, it does allllathat! This is a product that I will surely repurchase. I got this from a product swap but it can be purchased at Walgreens for $8 for 4.5 oz.

INGREDIENTS

Aqua (Water) , Cetearyl alcohol , Behentrimonium Chloride , fragrance , CyclopentaSiloxane , panthenol , Isopropyl Alcohol , Quaternium-80 , propylene glycol , Disodium EDTA , Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil , Silk Amino Acids , Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate , Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane , Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde , PHenoxyethanol , methylisothiazolinone

HOW I USE IT

After a shampoo and condition, I spray this on my damp hair using a wide tooth comb to detangle. If I’m doing a wash and go, I put a small amount of coconut oil and a curl defining creme and air dry or defuse. If I’m heat styling, I simply apply a small amount of coconut oil to my ends and begin to heat style.

Also, for MEN who need a beard grooming product, USE.THIS. It’s seems a little non traditional but I use it on my boyfriend’s beard and it keeps it hydrated and moisturized for no less than 2 days!

B.A.S.K. Sevenfold Butter Blend

Standard

Amazing product! Seriously, amazing! It’s rare that I find anything that’s labeled as a “butter” (other than the DIY butters I make myself) that aren’t extremely heavy on my SUPER thick hair. But this butter is JUST right! It’s super hydrating on hair, especially the ends of hair and works great as a sealant. I’ve used this for so many different purposes from a sealant, to a moisturizing leave in, as my C in the LOC method. The smell is super citrusy as well! Love! I got this from a product swap but I will most definitely purchase now that it’s run out. Unfortunately, this product is seasonal and thus it is only available October through the end of March BUT, when it IS back in season, it can be purchased on the BASK website.

INGREDIENTS

Organic Palm Oil, Jojoba Oil, Tucuuma Butter, Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Cupuacu Butter, Cocoa Butter
Illipe Butter, Kokum Butter, Vitamin E, select essential oils of choice

HOW I USE IT

As mentioned above, I use this product in many different ways. When I use it as for my wash and go’s, I put it on after I apply a leave in conditioner and light oil AND, again, after I’ve applied a curl defining creme and my hair is mostly dry (due to diffusing or air drying) this locks in moisture all around and gives a soft touch to my curls. When my hair is straight, I use this once every 2 or 3 days as a sealant for my ends. I apply a water based leave in to my ends, coconut oil and then this butter to seal in all that moisture.

Oyin Handmade Greg Juice

Standard

The past Oyin products I’ve tried have been like this–Great results; Not a fan of the smell. This product is the EXACT opposite–not so great results; HUGE ran of the smell! This spray is meant to serve as leave in conditioner or just a daily pick me up spray. With that being said, let me clarify. I’m not a fan of this spray as it relates to a leave in conditioner on damp hair. It doesn’t help detangling and it doesn’t seem to deliver any hydration to my hair. Now, as a daily pick me up? It works! It’s a great base when doing the LOC method as well. The smell is super citrusy and smells like…herbal goodness! Haha. I would recommend this purchase as a pick me up for second or third day hair. I purchased it on the Oyin website as part of the snack pack but it can be purchased, full size, for $14 for 8 oz.

INGREDIENTS

shavegrass leaf, lavender buds, nettle leaf, chamomile flower, and red rose petals; organic flax seeds; organic aloe leaf juice; vegetable glycerin; lavender oil, orange peel oil, grapefruit seed extract; citric acid

HOW I USE IT

When using it as a leave in conditioner (on wash and go hair) I apply it on my freshly washed hair before I apply any curl defining cremes. As a pick me up, or LOC method leave in, I lightly spritz my strands with this product before I apply any oil and butter (the kind for hair, not cooking haha).

Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Anti Breakage Spray

Standard

Best Seller. Love it! Before I really delve into this blog post, I felt that it was essential that I got those comments out. If you visit the Carol’s Daughter website, you’ll see that this spray is listed as one of it’s best sellers and I really can see why. This product is great as a leave in conditioner on wet hair (before wash and go styling), on second or third day hair when doing the LOC method, OR a leave in conditioner that conditions yet protects hair RIGHT before heat styling. Unlike the Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Moisturizing Leave In Conditioner (that I really don’t think is too moisturizing–reviewed in my blog here) this spray truly delivers instant hydration that you can feel! I love it! Also, as detailed in my blog post (in April) about the overall effects of this line, this really does protect against breakage! Overall, a winner. I purchased this product on the Carol’s Daughter website while they were having a sale (like they are NOW!) but it can be purchased for $24 for 5 fl oz.

INGREDIENTS

Water (Aqua), Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Isododecane, Pentylene Glycol, Agave Americana Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, C11-15 Pareth – 7, C12–16 Pareth – 9, Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) Fruit Juice, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Dicetyldimomium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Gardenia Tahitensis Flower Extract, Glycerin, Hydrolyzed Protein, Hydrolyzed Wheat Starch, Lactic Acid, Methyl Gluceth-20, Panthenol, PEG-8 Dimethicone, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Trideceth-12, Trimethylsiloxyamodimethicone, Methylisothiazolinone, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance (Parfum)

HOW I USE IT

As mentioned above I use this 1) as a spray on leave in conditioner right before I apply any curl defining cremes when doing a wash and go 2) as a leave in conditioner when doing the LOC method. If you don’t know what that is (gasp) you can read about it here. 3) As a leave in conditioner (and detangler) right before I blow out my hair.

Curls Lavish Curls Moisturizer

Standard

Before trying this product, I thought there did not exist a product in this world that could revive my 2nd/3rd day girls like the way Soft n’ Free’s Curl Activator does butttt I was wrong! This curl moisturizer is formulated to wake up second day curls (and third day, so on and so forth). It provides ALOT of moisture but, be careful, because this product is THICK and too much can weigh down hair. The thick consistency is a result of the AMAZING ingredients, such as aloe vera, shea butter, glycerin, etc. SO HYDRATING! So, for all the curlies who hate having to co-wash hair every other day USE THIS instead and save yourself the repetitive washing. Overall, I really like this product and am excited to try more of the Curls line! You can purchase this product at Sally’s, Walgreens, Target and CVS for $10.99 for 8 oz. A little pricey but with the thickness of this product, it’ll last a loooong while.

INGREDIENTS

Water, Glycerin, Polysorbate 80, Methylheptyl Isostearate, Certified Organic Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Certified Organic Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Certified Organic Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, (Pomegranate Seed Extract) Certified Organic Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Certified Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Certified Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Certified Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Certified Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Silk Amino Acids, Citric Acid, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Potassium Sorbate Phenoxyethanol Caprylyl Glycol, Fragrance.

HOW I USE IT

I really like to use this during my LOC method (as my leave in) to rehydrate my hair. I talk about the LOC method (for those of you that don’t know what the LOC method is) in this section of my blog. For second (or third) day curl refreshers and restyling however, just spray onto dry hair and let your curls do the rest!

Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Intensely Smooth Leave In Conditioning Cream

Standard

If you haven’t noticed a common theme in the products that I’ve been using this summer then I’ll clue you in. Anti Humidity! I’m all about fighting the frizz! That’s why I LOVE this leave in conditioner! What I’ve been discovering about anti humidity products, is that some of them have the tendency to dry your hair out. This leave in condish?? NOT AT ALL! This product gives my hair so much moisture WHILE protecting it from frizz. It truly is the great base product to use before you apply any curl defining cremes or gels. I got this product from a product swap with one of my close friends but it can be purchased at Walgreens, Walmart or CVS for $5.

INGREDIENTS

Aqua/Water/Eau, Cetearyl Alcohol, Amodimethicone, Cetyl Esters, Behentrimonium Chloride, Parfum/Fragrance, Pyrus Malus Extract/Apple Fruit Extract, Isopropyl Alcohol, Trideceth-6, Argania Spinosa Oil/Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Prunus Armeniaca Kernel Oil/Apricot Kernel Oil, Niacinamide, Pyridoxine HCI, Hexyl Cinnamal, Chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride, Citric Acid, Cetrimonium Chloride, Saccharum Officinarum Extract/Sugar Cane Extract/Extrait De Canine A Sucre, Benzyl Alcohol, Linalool, Amyl Cinnamal, CI 19140/Yellow 5, CI 15985/Yellow 6, Citrus Medica Limonum Peel Extract/Lemon Peel Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract.

HOW I USE IT

After a co-wash, or a fresh shampoo and condition, I apply this product to my damp hair. If I’m about to straighten my hair, I’ll use a wide tooth comb to ensure equal distribution of this product throughout my hair because, yes, this leave in is a GREAT detangler. If I’m doing a wash and go, I’ll finger detangle with this leave in then add a curl defining creme (like my favorite Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La) and diffuse or air dry my hair! OR, if you don’t to wear your hair out, you can do some snazzy summer boho braids coupled with an up do to beat the summer humidity!

Shea Moisture Yucca & Baobab Thickening Moisture Mist

Standard

This is a product that I’ve had for quite a while now yet hadn’t reviewed for some reason! I love this product! This is one that is extremely versatile, meaning you can use it when styling your hair whether wet or dry. For those of you that are familiar with this part of the SheaMoisture line, then you know these Yucca & Baobab products are specifically tailored to those with “thin, fine hair.” That’s clearly not the case over here but, nonetheless, I love these products–especially this mist! The mist contains Biotin which, as we all know, promotes hair growth and length retention. After using the line as a whole for about 7-8 months, I definitely believe that the Yucca & Baobab line have had a great deal to do with my increased thickness and length retention. Here is an old school vlog by the great Jenelle, about the line as a whole. If you just want to focus on this mist, then start at 4:12. I purchased this product from Walgreens for $8 for 8 oz.

INGREDIENTS

Deionized Water , Adansonia Digitata Extract (Baobab) , Yucca Filamentosa Extract , Butyrospermum Parkii Oil (Shea)Certified Organic , Aloe Vera Leaf Juice , Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein , Biotin , Rosemary Extract , Bamboo Extract , Lonicera Caprifolium Flower Extract (Honeysuckle) , Lonicera Japonica Flower Extract (Japanese Honeysuckle)

HOW I USE IT

I use this as a leave in RIGHT before I start blow drying my hair. OR, I use it to freshen up my 2nd day hair when I do a wash and go. It can be used either way, but if on a wash and go, make sure to use the LOC method for maximum moisture.
