SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Co-Wash Conditioning Cleanser

Standard

This co-wash is one of those products that I like but…don’t LOVE. Is it cleansing? For the most part, yes. It’s moisturizing? For the most, yes. But that’s the thing, I have to preface the “yes” with a “for the most part.” Maybe it’s because I believe in shampooing my hair every week or two or maybe it’s because I think solely co-washing hair isn’t the best thing for hair but I’m not a huge fan of this co-wash. It’s too reminiscent of the Coconut & Hibiscus Conditioner. It does get the job done though, for the most part, leaving my hair cleansed and moisturized. I purchased this product from Walgreens for $11.99 for 8 fl oz.

INGREDIENTS

Deionized Water, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut)Oil*, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Magnifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Cetyl Esters, Kaolin Clay, Grapeseed Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Behentrimonium Chloride (Conditioner), Hibiscus Sabdariffa Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Melia Azadirachta (Neem) Seed Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Vegetable Protein, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Stearyl Alcohol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), African Black Soap Extract, Sea Salt, Rosemary Extract, Caprylyl Glycol *Certified Organic Ingredient

HOW I USE IT

I part my hair into four sections, applying the co-wash to my hair one section at a time. I massage into my scalp then work through the length of my hair. Rinse and style!

Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo

Standard

The Coconut & Hibiscus line of SheaMoisture is meant for those that have thick, curly hair. This line helps to prevent frizz, and aid in moisture and shine. It’s very important this line only be used by those that have THICK hair. If your hair is curly but it’s not THICK and curly, this product line will most likely be way too heavy for your hair.

Like most SheaMoisture products, I purchased this shampoo from Walgreens for $11 for 13 flz oz.

INGREDIENTS

Deionized Water , Decyl Glucoside (Sugar Beets) , Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut) , Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) , Aloe Vera Leaf Juice , Vitamin E , Melia Azadirachta Seed Oil (Neem) , Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate (Coconut Oil) , Panthenol (Vitamin B-5) , Rosemary Extract , Silk Protein

I really love the coconut oil, shea butter and vitamin E that this shampoo contains! These ingredients really provide shine and moisture.

HOW I USE IT

I use this shampoo after doing a pre poo treatment on my hair. This shampoo is sulfate free AND color safe! Two things I love since my hair is colored AND I hate how drying sulfates are on hair. This shampoo truly does deliver on shine and moisture! I also do see a decline in frizz when I use this shampoo with my wash and go’s. It gives a GREAT lather and smells just like coconut. Overall, I really like this product, although it’s not in my top 10, and would purchase again!

Eden Coconut Shea All Natural Leave In Conditioner

Standard

This leave in conditioner is inching it’s way into my top ten favorites! I purchased this from Sally’s about three weeks ago ($9-8 fl oz) and I use when I do wash and go’s. I like to mix this with my own DIY leave in sealants, using both UNDER SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. This leave in has also been featured on many blogs listing Sally’s top ten products!

INGREDIENTS

Water (Aqua), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil , Vegetable Oil, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Butryospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cetyl Esters, Glyceryl Dilaurate, Steareth-20, Polyquaternium-7, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Milk, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Lactobacillus/Tomato Fruit Ferment Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Keratin Amino Acids, Acyl Coenzyme A Desaturase, Cetrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Hydrolyzed Silk, Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl Steardimonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol

This product is creamy and really aids in detangling! It has a great smell that I can’t quite describe as well. One of the things that attracted me most to this product was the fact that it contains no sulfates, mineral oils, dyes, or parabens. It also contains vitamin E and hydrolyzed keratin which both aid in strengthening the hair shaft!

HOW I USE IT

As I said earlier, I like to use this product when I do my wash and go’s. So, I use it on freshly washed hair, after spraying in my Nothing But Curl Wake Up Spray. Then, after using one of my favorite leave in sprays, I apply this leave in mixed in with my DIY leave in/sealant. As a finishing touch, and when my hair is dry, I like to apply Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil for some extra moisture and shine!! The end result is soft manageable hair!

Below is a picture of this leave in conditioner, per usual. Below that is a picture of my hair wet, after applying this leave in and a picture of my hair dry, after all products (mentioned above) have been applied. It never pictures well but I tried haha

SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

Standard

This product is truly one of trial and error. There are many naturals who love this product and believe that it should be strictly used by naturalistas. Wrong. One of my best best friends, who is FULL Puerto Rican and has a head full of curly hair that is not the slightest bit coarse, loves this product! She would not even slightly fall under the category of being “natural,” in the sense that most people think of. Also, while I’m not natural, my hair loves this product! I use it when I do wash and go’s (pictured below-my hair never pictures right but it’ll work lol) and it gives me soft hydrated hair. I found a YouTube video that explains how to best use this product, so have a look!

A drawback to this product is that it’s not much of a curl definer. It won’t give you the type of curl definition that you will typically find in aloe vera based gel products, HOWEVER, it does protect against frizz. Another drawback, and why I say this product is truly one of trial and error, is that this product is really heavy on the hair. A little goes a longgg way with this product!

As stated in the YouTube video, it’s best to use this product when your hair is damp AND on top of a leave in conditioner. Just remember, trial and error. You may use too much or not enough of this product at first. Just try again! If by the third or fourth time it’s still not for you, then it’s time to give it away haha
